No, uhm, of course, um, we're not, um, planning to, um, attack Iran.

RON PAUL CONFRONTS THE LIAR - CONDOLEEZZA RICE

Added: May 29, 2008

In that video of Condoleezza Rice responding to Ron Paul, she sure says "um" a lot.

Doesn't that seem odd for someone who's surely a polished public speaker and who's spoken extemporaneously on complicated matters countless times?

Not really, when you consider what the late Dale Leathers has to say in his book, Successful Nonverbal Communication. He opens one chapter with the precise quote from a 1979 TV interview with Ted Kennedy in which Kennedy is asked how his marriage is going. Kennedy's whole response, in which he tries to suggest things are going well, is little more than a string of "uhs." It's literally a textbook example of someone lying and doing a bad job of it.

And so it is with Miss Rice when she suggests there are no plans to attack Iran.

(Complete Kennedy quote after the jump.)

"Well, I think that, uh, it's a, uh, uh, uh we've had, um, uh, some uh, difficult uh, uh, times but I think we uh, have uh, uh, oof, I think been able to make some uh, very good progress and uh, uh, it's uh, uh, I would say that it's uh, uh it's it's um delighted that we're able to, to share, share the time and the, the relationship that we do share."
