“… pure and puerile insanities, the silly creations of an imagination that is not conscious of its freaks…”
–Mark Twain (The Mysterious Stranger)
Those who take the long view of history often wind up with the short end of the stick.
That’s because, as John Maynard Keynes himself said, in the long run, we’ll all be dead.
While the handful of contemporary philosopher-kings (largely on the Web these days!) ponder the ponderous evolution of humans over the eons–and even the ebb and flow of life-forms over the vast reaches of geophysical time–masses of consumer worker-soldier ants stuff and gorge, vomit and defecate on their own and others’ food and energy resources. They can’t help it. They’ve been programmed by nature and, worse, a rapacious, predatory-capitalist, materialist mind/heart-set to seize every opportunity to plunder, rape, steal, hoard, waste and conquer.
Lazare Ponticelli, the last French foot-soldier of the first world war, died on March 12th, aged 110.

How the GOP, Reagan, Bush Sr. Bush Jr. Betrayed, Pillaged, then Sold the U.S.
George W. Bush's war of naked aggression against Iraq --a war crime --has not only bankrupted the US, it has brought the entire world to the brink of economic ruin. It is also an ignominious defeat and may one day be compared to Valens' loss to barbarians at Adrianople. One wonders: what sound is made by collapsing empires? Do they go boom or 'suck'?

Christmas under Occupation
When I look out the balcony of the faculty lounge at Bethlehem University I hear the constant hammering of the construction in the settlement that separates us from Jerusalem and I see Israeli settlements built on Palestinian lands surrounding Bethlehem on three sides. Every two weeks, Jewish settlers "visit" the hill on the fourth side (called Ush Ghrab) that they have set their eyes on. Yet, I hear the US media is focused on other things including the weighty matter of dodging shoes.
There is a system of corruption involving governments and "authorities" trickling down to people. This is coupled with a media strategy that makes it look as if the only choices available to Palestinians are blowing themselves up or capitulation and endless negotiations. This sad state of affairs did not just happen but was engineered and is actively managed to perpetuate occupation and dependency.

American Politics 101
1. Justice is for Suckers
Bush II's upcoming pardon of himself and his accomplices will be a one-day story -- two days at the very most -- before it is buried by feverish folderol about the Obama nomination ... and by Obama himself, who will doubtless issue some sort of statement expressing the need for the nation to "move on" from such matters of ancient history in light of the tough challenges ahead, etc., etc.
2. School for Scandal
How can it be that such abominable and flagrant (not to mention counterproductive and ineffective) crimes -- crimes which have provoked the deaths of thousands of Americans -- will not be prosecuted by the United States government?
As we have said here over and over, the elite (and their sycophants) believe that the maintenance of the elite's own power, wealth and privilege is synonymous with the "national interest." Thus their deep and abiding sincerity when defending, say, the wanton murder of a million innocent human beings in Iraq, or the employment of base and sickening tortures on other human beings held captive in a secret, lawless system.
See? Politics isn't really that complicated after all, is it?In 1988, the FBI's Robert Mueller (above) supervised the Lockerbie Bombing investigation.

UK Defence Secretary talks about the UK military and the Nazis
In an interview in The Times today, Herr Nutton says that, like Hitler's campaign in Eastern Europe, the West's military campaign in Afghanistan is “a vital national mission”. Britain has always defended the heroin trade. The Taliban were getting rid of the heroin.

Who is getting conned here? Are we sure we know?
Will we ever find out the truth? Who can we depend on to expose the corruption?
Who indeed? Nobody!!!! Who would ever confirm such a thing for us? Even if they wanted to, they'd be likely to get whacked or suicided for their trouble. So it's just another wacky conspiracy theory from all those wacky conspiracy theorists who perceive corruption everywhere but can never "prove" it. Right? It's not enough that corruption is obviously everywhere. We must have actual proof, like documents or something. You know, Proof! Which we will not get because there is corruption everywhere. Oh ha ha ha. It must be so fun to be corrupt

The Propaganda Ministers have succeeded. The takeover is likely irreversible; the cancer, irremovable.
Furthermore, the public proponents of national-socialism greatly outnumber those against. And those in favor most notably include the most prolific cheer-leaders for centralized tyranny in general and executive absolutism, in particular: the unbiased, objective, and balanced ”mainstream” (corporate-statist) news media.
And more than ever, the national-socialism will thrive and expand like wildfire, sucking the life, liberty, and property, like oxygen, out of non-conforming individuals and groups. And the viral growth of central tyranny will be irreversible (save, perhaps, for the valiant yet likely doomed efforts of those who “keep their powder dry”). And the ugliest and most brutal form of the “democracy” so shunned by the Founders will have permanently permeated the same land where, some 235 years ago, individuals voluntarily assembled in defense of life, liberty, and property, thus commencing the shaking-off the same central tyranny.

A great deal of nonsense is being spoken and written these days about learning the lessons of history in order to solve our current problems. Much of it has been targeted at President-elect Barack Obama, as if he were a reincarnation of Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, or John F. Kennedy and can use the precedents of these great presidents as a model for our present political situation.
It's interesting that none of these so-called history pundits has suggested that the actions of these former presidents could serve us in solving our historic and current economic challenge: getting rid of the international money cabal. In other words, these counterfeit history experts are as phony as our current economic experts.
This kind of blatant nonsense is nowhere more indulged in than on the right-wing Charlie Rose show. Having no genuine learning or intellectual acumen of his own, Rose tries to fill his interview table with persons he mistakenly assumes are erudite or sagacious. This accounts for his having had Henry Kissinger on his show 47 times, and explains why he has recently been inviting people like Doris Kearns Goodwin to share her potted unwisdom about the "political genius of Abraham Lincoln" with American viewers.

The notion of the US taking control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is nothing new. Ever since 9/11 the issue of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal has been in the minds of US planners.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mullen wants to increase U.S. forces in Afghanistan by 30,000 next summer. One wonders where these troops are supposed to come from given that Mullen and other generals are trying to sabotage Obama's plan of retreat there. As the British leave, some troops will now also be needed to cover Basra.and quite possibly soon to be homeless as well.....
Put in a positive light, so as not to cast a pall over the joys of the Christmas season, Bernard L. Madoff should be viewed as someone who has expanded the consequences of one of the great new traditions of the holiday season to a group that never expected to share in it. The tradition to which I refer is the tradition of corporations large and small alike informing their employees that in the new year they will have more time at home with the family. That news is always accompanied by the news that there will no longer be a paycheck, thus, in most cases, reducing the quality, if not the quantity, of time spent at home with the family.

Totally unexpected...surprising him no end...practically inconceivable that it should turn out this way...blah blah blah
Kissinger also related that he has been struck by how much the move toward a new global order has been enhanced by the recent crises.
“The jihadist crisis is bringing it home to everybody, that international affairs cannot be conducted entirely by drawing borders and defining international politics by who crosses what borders with organized military force.” he said. Here he's been, advocating for a New World Order for decades now, and lookie here! This here financial crisis has spread around the whole world, in a "totally unexpected" manner, and that will help usher in the New World Order that Herr Kissinger has been working toward for decades! Go Figure!! What are the chances?!?

Global warming - don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up
Many people have not bought into the notion that what living creatures do will change the climate on Earth; indeed their numbers far exceed the number of Al Gore acolytes. But you would never know this if you get your information solely from the traditional news media and politicians.
Has anybody ever wondered how we can be so certain about who and what causes climate change on Earth when we can’t figure out for certain how the world was made?

The buying, selling, and trading of carbon credits will not remove one molecule of CO2 from the atmosphere.
Global warming zealots are using the Hegelian Dialectic to push their environmental agenda to the detriment of the American people. People are being brainwashed into believing the planet is being threatened by global warming. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi even claims that she was elected to "save the planet." Al Gore, the self-appointed high priest of global warming, lectures everyone to reduce their energy consumption. But don't be fooled. Neither Peolsi nor Gore walks the walk. Both are multi-millionaires who live in energy-gobbling mansions.
These elitist Liberals want to re-create a serf/royalty society, with liberals representing the royalty class. You will know when this global warming hype is for real when Gore, Pelosi, and their ilk give up the amenities of the "rich and famous" and live in 1,600 sq. ft. houses, fly coach, and use mass transit. Until then, their hot air is the cause of global warming. Every aspect of your life will be adversely affected if our politicians are allowed to implement any of these fraudulent cap and trade schemes.

Yep: I Just Can't Let 9/11 Go
Doing some research in my spare time, I tried to find the original statement by Bin Laden, issued by him on Al Jezeera on Sept. 16th 2001...
In it he denied any responsibility for 9/11, stating: "The U.S. government has consistently blamed me for being behind every occasion its enemies attack it."
"I would like to assure the world that I did not plan the recent attacks, which seems to have been planned by people for personal reasons," bin Laden's statement said."
"I have been living in the Islamic emirate of Afghanistan and following its leaders' rules. The current leader does not allow me to exercise such operations,"...

Comparing Gays to Pizza
"Just because I like pizza it doesn't mean I should marry it," said Warren. "Biologically, I am predisposed to enjoy the immaculate melding of mozzarella cheese, red sauce and thick crust baked to tasty perfection. But that doesn't mean I should enter into a lifelong commitment with Sicilian or plain, nor bed it down."
