"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"
If you want a glimpse of the fundamental moral obscenity that underlies our bold new era of hope and change, look no further than Barack Obama's promise this week to "overhaul" Social Security and Medicare. This effort to cut back on support for the sick, the old, the weak, the unfortunate and the abandoned will be a "central part" of the new administration's economic program, a linchpin of its struggle to curb federal spending, Obama declared.
Yet it is here, on "entitlements," that Obama wants to make a "tough stand" on government spending. It will be a "central part" of his entire economic program. Getting "entitlements" under control will be one of the first major campaigns of his administration, he says, promising plans in February, just days after he moves into the White House.
At the same time, he promises to expand – to expand – the multitrillion-dollar war machine that has literally bled the nation dry. He wants to expand a military-industrial-security complex that already devours more money and resources than every other military force on earth combined. He wants more troops, more weapons, an ever-increasing "global strike capability," an escalation of the endless, pointless "War on Terror" in Afghanistan and Pakistan (for starters). He has never said a single word about "curbing government spending" on this vast conglomerate of death and destruction. He has not said a single word about rolling back even a few of American military outposts that in their several hundreds now cover the entire globe. At every point, it seems, government spending on the war machine – including the tens of billions of dollars spent in secret each year on the various tentacles of the "national security" apparatus – will be increased under the Obama administration.

Obama camp 'prepared to talk to Hamas'
The incoming Obama administration is prepared to abandon George Bush's doctrine of isolating Hamas by establishing a channel to the Islamist organisation, sources close to the transition team say.
The move to open contacts with Hamas, which could be initiated through the US intelligence services, would represent a definitive break with the Bush presidency's ostracising of the group. The state department has designated Hamas a terrorist organisation, and in 2006 Congress passed a law banning US financial aid to the group.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has accused the Israeli military of "unacceptable" conduct and breaching international humanitarian law after discovering four emaciated children living next to the corpses of their mothers and other adults in bomb-shattered houses in Gaza City.
I will tell you. This is the behavior of an incredibly racist and murderous people: Israel. They have separated themselves from the rest of humanity by their thoughts, words and actions. They believe themselves superior, and that is why they call everyone else goyim, cattle. They have become so immersed in a culture of lies -- lies about the land they stole, lies about the God they claim to worship, lies about their history -- that they have lost all bearings. These are the most lost people on earth, truly to be pitied, for they behave like stupid beasts while braying incessantly of their superiority. They don't even recognize what asses they make of themselves, day after day after day, because they so love the sound of their own voices.
They think they can commit these atrocities and then pull back soon. Of course they have a plan. There's always a plan. You watch what comes next. The world will demand that something be done, and then guess what? Something will be done. The next bailout is on the way. The next bailout will be the US and the rest of the world bailing out Israel for the price of its crimes against humanity. That's right. The CFR has the plans in order. Israel's precious security, their little obsession, will come out of your pocket after enough Palestinian blood has been shed to make you willing to pay for it. After enough Palestinian children have died, or lost their limbs, or laid starving next to their dead mothers. When you are all good and horrified, then and only then, will the elites shake you down to make it stop. And Israel will pay a little price. Oh sure. They will be forced to give back something -- some of the land they stole, or some of the money we give them. Some little token, but nothing from their own hide. No. Never a piece of their own hide. It always comes out of the surplus.

The brutal face of Israel's "total war" on Gaza
photo from The Peoples Voice
While Israel has sought to conceal the atrocities that it is carrying out against Gaza’s civilian population, reports of aid workers and testimony of survivors have provided a searing picture of the carnage unleashed by its military assault.
The Israeli government has barred the international media from entering the besieged Gaza Strip for good reason. It wants as much as possible to limit the images of the dead and maimed civilian men, women and children from reaching the outside world and to prevent the Palestinians trapped inside the blockaded territory from telling their stories. It's so hard to select one, seeing as there have been so many.
How about July 2006, when Hamas fighters supposedly kidnapped an IDF soldier, then went to the middle of Gaza City and held a press conference about it?
If there had really been a kidnapping, those “terrorists” would have been executed, or at least arrested, on the spot. I mean, the photo above was taken not ten miles from the Israeli border! There are Israeli agents all over Palestine, for Christ’s sake!!WMR reported that a ”female Israeli ‘art student’ who lived on an Israeli kibbutz for a year and who is also a British national, told our source in London that in the weeks prior to 9/11 she was ‘selling art in Washington [DC]. Before her arrival in Washington, the Israeli art student said she was in the San Francisco Bay Area attending college as an “art student” but denied selling any art while in the Bay Area. She also said she spent some time in South Carolina prior to 9/11. A leaked Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) report on the activities of Israeli art students prior to 9/11 revealed that female Israeli art students were active in Palo Alto and Fresno. The British-Israeli art student said that on the morning of 9/11 she was standing outside the Pentagon. She admitted she never saw a plane hit the building but saw a huge ‘hole’ in the building after an explosion. The art student also said that she was in Times Square in New York the next day, September 12, attending a memorial service for the 9/11 victims. She said she had a ticket to fly out of New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport on September 12 but that because commercial planes were grounded she had to find another way to leave the country. The art student sad she ‘had to get out’ of the United States because she did not have a proper visa to continue working in the United States. She said she left the United States over the Canadian border. When quizzed why she left so quickly after 9/11, the art student replied that she ‘had to leave cause the United States Government thought Israelis had something to do with 9/11.’”

In his first major policy speech since winning the presidential election, Barack Obama on Thursday pushed for speedy passage of his economic stimulus plan, painting a dire picture of the consequences should it fail to be rapidly implemented.
“We start 2009 in the midst of a crisis unlike any we have seen in our lifetime,” he declared, “a crisis that has only deepened over the last few weeks…. Now, I don’t believe it’s too late to change course, but it will be if we don’t take dramatic action as soon as possible. If nothing is done, this recession could linger for years… our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that at some point we may not be able to reverse.”
From one standpoint, the speech was a remarkable, if backhanded, acknowledgment by the incoming president of the failure of capitalist market economics and the prospect of a full-blown depression. The past year has exploded all of the nostrums—the infallibility of the market, the virtues of financial “risk-taking,” the wizardry of Wall Street—that for decades were promoted as incontestable truths.
There’s a much better way to do this. Restoring a balance of trade with a return to the tariff policies successfully employed by this nation for the first 171 years of our history, prior to the signing of the Global Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in 1947, would grow our GDP (Gross Domestic Product) by $700 billion, not just for one year or two but every year from now on. And the program wouldn’t cost a dime. In fact, instead of adding trillions in debt, between the tariffs collected on imports and the tax revenue collected on the higher GDP, federal tax revenues would easily swell by $500 billion per year. Second and third shifts would be added at auto and parts plants across the country. Idled plants would be restarted. At the same time, the profit potential needed to justify domestic production of other products would be restored. Instead of creating a mere three million jobs under Mr. Obama’s plan, many of which would be temporary, six million permanent, high-paying manufacturing jobs would come home and millions of additional construction jobs would be created to rebuild America’s manufacturing infrastructure.more - Pete Murphy

My father once stated that he couldn't understand why anyone can't get a job as even illegal aliens can get jobs.
My criminal record for having "overreacted" to being mugged on my former Connecticut property, by resisting and fighting back caused me to have a criminal record involving prison. Without a record I was sentenced to a year in prison for pepper spraying a mugger.

Seeking Clemency from a War Criminal: The Case of Evan Vela Carnahan
During the past six years, the Bush Regime has followed an inverted Nuremberg formula -- call it the "Abu Ghraib Doctrine" -- under which the legal accountability for war crimes resides only with those at the bottom of the chain of command. To palliate public opinion in Iraq, a handful of low-ranking soldiers were sent to prison after the Abu Ghraib atrocities were made public.
Evan Carnahan is merely one of countless thousands of fundamentally decent Americans whose earnest patriotism led them to participate in a world-historic crime. Unlike most of them, however, Evan is now in prison while those who used him to carry out that crime are free -- and his only hope for freedom, at present, is an act of clemency from the War Criminal in the White House.
