The 9/11 Card Trumps Everything "Why would Iraq attack America or use nuclear weapons against us? I'll tell you what I think the real threat [is] and actually has been since 1990 - it's the threat against Israel."

Philip Zelikow, Director of the 9/11 Commission and Bush administration official.

by Scott Creighton

Prosecution for torture? Is that what you think is going to happen? A real investigation? What, like the 9/11 Commission or the NIST report maybe? Grow up. You may in fact get Jay Bybee impeached after distracting the accountability movement for a year or two till the next election cycle but what is the overall end result of that? Is that going to keep future presidents in line? Restore our shared respect for the trampled constitution? Hell no. After much ado about nothing and way to much wasted distracted time, the leaders of the “accountability movement” will pat themselves on the back like they accomplished something, Bybee will be removed from the bench, and then he will take a cushy seat as a director on a couple of well financed boards and effectively retire a very wealthy man sipping cocktails at a bar on the beach somewhere, laughing.

Because the prosecution movement is a joke; they can’t even manage to get 6 BushCo underlings brought up on charges in Spain. Spain. (Like anyone is going there anytime soon). It’s just a symbolic gesture like the war crimes prosecution of Kissinger, but they can’t even get that much done after confessing to torturing people, the stories of Cheney’s “death squads”, and the illegal invasion and pilfering of Iraq and Afghanistan. Why? Because Obama™ won’t let them.

And why did I say, more than a year ago when Bugliosi was pushing for prosecution rather than impeachment, that the prosecution tactic would never work? Why? It’s simple really: because 9/11 trumps everything and even the “progressives”/New Dems are starting to parrot that meme now.

Right on cue.

As the call for prosecution grows ever louder in the dusty, underfunded halls of “progressive” blogs and liberal sites everywhere, so too does the obvious answer to all the ills of the Bush/Obama administration: 9/11.

9/11 is the ultimate “get out of jail free card”, the gift that keeps on giving to BushCo/ Obama™ and their supporting cast of greedy corporations and all I have to do is cite 2 examples to prove my case.

Obama’s own intelligence director starts us off showing the previous administration that once again, they can count on Team Obama to carry their water, through thick and thin.

High value information came from interrogations in which those methods were used and provided a deeper understanding of the al Qa’ida organization that was attacking this country,” Adm. Dennis C. Blair, the intelligence director, wrote in a memo to his staff last Thursday. MSNBC

Attacking this country, huh? Well, I guess that is a reference to 9/11 I suppose coming from Obama’s people, not Cheney. But then Blair goes even further;

I like to think I would not have approved those methods in the past,” he wrote, “but I do not fault those who made the decisions at that time, and I will absolutely defend those who carried out the interrogations within the orders they were given.” MSNBC

Yeah, you can’t blame them for what they did, after all, it was right after… 9/11

You see the closer you get to peeling away the veneer of justice in this country, especially around the subject of what happened during that time, the more the apologists are going to start sounding like Rudy Giuliani running for office; “a noun, a verb, and 9/11″.

And it is going to be bipartisan, which means that the DLC/New Dem think-tank mouth-pieces like Think Progress and MoveOn will parrot the same talking points in order to support the Grand Leader’s position.

But it won’t always be so obvious. Not like Cheney coming out there pretending like there was a new terrorist plot every other Tuesday that the torture foiled. Sure there will be those downright lies to justify their actions, but the more dangerous memes will be carefully disguised.

Take for instance this little gem that made it’s way onto one of the “accountability” seeking sites;

Having been the executive director of the 9/11 Commission, I’m aware of what some of these captives did. The Commission wondered how captives were questioned (for details on that, see this previously disclosed report), and the matter is now the subject of a federal criminal investigation by special prosecutor John Durham. Nonetheless, the evidence against most — if not all — of the high-value detainees remains damning. But the issue is not about who or what they are. It is about who or what we are.” ADS

This is Philip Zelikow, a lying scumbag who steered the 9/11 Commission for the Bush administration after George W’s first choice, Henry Kissinger was shamed into resigning by the family members of the victims of 9/11. He personally lead the cover-up of what happened on 9/11. Now, let’s hold that thought for just a second… Philip Zelikow orchestrated what is almost unanimously considered as a massive cover-up of an event that took the lives of nearly 3,000 U.S. citizens in one day on U.S. soil. The biggest “terrorist” event in our history… and Zelikow helped white-wash it so that no-one was to blame, actual eye-witness testimony was omitted, State Department and Pentagon officials actually gave fraudulent testimony, all this and this guy wraps it up in a neat little package to say “the terrorists did it” just like BushCo wanted them to.

And now he is making sure to say it all over again. “Nonetheless the evidence against most is damning”. Evidence? You mean the planted last will and testament that the hijacker for some reason wanted to take on the plane with him to blow up and the convenient instruction manual on how to fly jumbo jets… all that stuff they just happened to find in his suit case.. the one and only suitcase that didn’t make the transfer? You mean that evidence? Or does he mean the 6 hijackers that even the FBI says are probably still alive yet they refuse to change the names of the suspected 19? Maybe he is talking about the fact that Building 7 just fell over that day, crumbling just like a perfect example of controlled demolition, yet somehow Zelikow didn’t even mention it in his Commission Report.

Or does he mean the “evidence” that they got from the torture? 183 hours of waterboarding alone in one month. That kind of torture. You know, the evidence that they couldn’t see the video tape of… they couldn’t talk to the people who did the interrogating… they couldn’t watch the interrogation live… what they got was a written transcript of the confession.

Let me repeat that for those of you that are a little slow.

The great “evidence” that Zelikow is talking about (after dismissing eyewitness accounts, key whistle blowers who came forward at the time to testify, and failing to run even rudimentary forensic testing on the materials at ground zero) the “evidence” that Zelikow is talking about… is what SOMEONE SAYS… the suspect said.

No recordings, no videos… just the CIA agents WORD that someone confessed. The same agents, by the way, that committed multiple felonies when they destroyed the tapes of the interrogations; the REAL evidence.

That’s what amounts to solid evidence in Zelikows mind.

Now, though Zelikow seems to be stating that he is opposed to letting these guys off the hook and going forward with prosecution (though he conveniently doesn’t ever come out and actually say that) what he is doing in fact, is setting the precedent for the “9/11 made me do it” excuse. He is attempting to dehumanize the victims of the torture by injecting the crime of 9/11 as to poison the well, so to speak.

But in fact, these aren’t the only two people to have been tortured. I seem to remember a little story about abu Ghraib with bunches of people who turned out to be completely innocent and another one about a taxi driver who got caught up in all this as well, and he was dead within 5 days.

Not to mention Gitmo.

Fact is, Zelikow is doing exactly what I would expect from someone like him. He is taking a position that seems to be on the pro-prosecution side so that his writing will be republished in all the “progressive” sites, while his real message will be to repeatedly instill the connection between torture and 9/11.

And After Downing Street fell for it. I am sure others will as well. Why shouldn’t they? They know about as much about 9/11 as they know about what the Council on Foreign Relations and the Tri-Lateral Group really do. This is the trouble with having ignored the taboo subjects for years on end.

The fact is, nothing will ever be able to stick to any of these people as long as the myth of the official story of 9/11 is allowed to stand unchallenged in the mainstream “progressive” dissent community.

Should that be the case? Of course not; one atrocity does not justify the next. But we have to live in the real world here. Those who protect the gains of the imperialist agenda and feed off the continued ignorance of the masses, will constantly interject the story of 9/11 whenever they feel threatened; whenever someone gets close to holding any of them accountable or when they threaten to start any real investigation into the events surrounding all of this. That includes investigations into illegal wiretaps, graft and embezzlement, and especially 9/11.

And yes, that also includes another very important part of the machinery of imperialism that the new president doesn’t want us looking too closely at; torture.

You would think that people would start to see a pattern developing here.

No, you’re not going to get a legitimate prosecution for torture. Obama rushed right over to the CIA to make sure to tell them that himself. I guess he was worried about ending up like JFK if he didn’t get there fast enough, after all, the Bush’s are still around aren’t they?

What you will probably end up getting is another non-partisan Commission to investigate like Zelikow’s did. You’ll have Jane Harmon or some such “unbiased” forthright congressman take the lead on it and they will, after much more ado about nothing, present some findings some silly hearings with the Code Pink ladies standing behind some guilty looking CIA agent who will never see the inside of a jail cell for one single day before he is given a new face and identity and whisked off to enjoy the rest of his life sitting at a bar on a beach and laughing while the Clinton/Bush/Obama train rolls on it’s merry globalist way.

That’s what you’ll get.

Because in the end, Jane Harmon, or some other such “honorable” congressman will surmise that though we wouldn’t do it the same way now after all this “CHANGE”, all’s fair in love and war… and after all, we didn’t start it, they did, the “terrorists” did… on 9/11.

UPDATE 1 - Philip Zelikow was on the Rachel Maddow show last night** it seems, making the rounds on the “progressive” media just like I said he would with his bullshit little “dissenting memo”. Maddow rightly presses him (not nearly enough though) about the fact that if he did in fact write the memo at that time (hard to prove because as he says, all the official copies of it were “destroyed” so that there are no verifiable copies from White House records… we just have to take his “word” for it. Taking the word of a guy who oversaw the biggest whitewash in U.S. history is a bit of a reach for me) and was attempting to change White House policy on the torture issue, why didn’t he resign and go public then, in 2005. Zelikow kinda stumbled a bit on that one, but then launched into some drivel about how they actually were successful in changing the policy in 2006; as if to say they stopped torturing at that point with the “help” of congress and the Supreme Court (way I remember it, they fought tooth and nail to keep torturing everyone they could).

Zelikow also made a remarkable statement that went unchallenged by Maddow which was very disappointing to me. He said that this was a “unprecedented position” for the CIA and the White House in that they had never considered using torture before.

Zelikow is a hard-core liar.

The CIA has been torturing people all across the globe for decades. Practically since it’s inception; and they have always known it was illegal and immoral which is why they have always done their best to lie about it and cover it up. For God’s sake, the School of the Americas is an institution in Ft. Benning, GA. that teaches torture tactics to right wing “revolutionaries” from all over Latin America.

It’s been there since 1984, for Gods sake. Where I expect Zelikow to lie every time he opens his mouth, I would like to have seen Maddow call him out on that one.

But rather than do that, she told him his “perspective” on the matter was invaluable. “Progressives” really aren’t that gullable, are they?

**Instead of being imprisoned for life for his crimes and cover-ups, Zelikow gets face time in the MSM to continue his lies. Torture is a minor issue compared to the false flag of 9/11 and Zelikow has always been right in the middle the deception.

Philip Zelikow, the Commission’s executive director and its gatekeeper, is rife with conflicts of interest.

An historian, he was a member of the Bush’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. Ret. Gen. Brent Scrowcroft, National Security Advisor in the Ford and Bush 1 administrations and vice chair of Kissinger Associates from 1980-89, chaired the Board.

Zelikow worked with Rice on the National Security Council during Bush 1. After that, they collaborated on a book.

Zelikow was on the Bush-Cheney transition team which helped form the current National Security Council.

The joke going around Washington: "Did he interview himself about his own role in the failures that left us defenseless?"

During the Commission hearings in January, Zelikov reported that the FBI and CIA neglected to tell the airlines to put alleged hijackers who had entered the U.S. on a watch list. He called the situation a “management problem.” When Commissioner Bob Kerrey disagreed with Zelikow, victim families at the hearings applauded. {more}

  1. Bugliosi never brought out the truth of Manson and MKULTRA and his book on same was in my opinion as an ex-prosecutor lies and crap. Read the Laurel Canyon series by Dave McGowan on who these "hippies" were - - military psychological operation.

  2. Bugliosi also wrote a book praising the 'lone nut killer' theory of the Kennedy assassination. He is a shill.

    The McGowan writings are an interesting read. Should be a movie.
