Taking Matters Into Their Own Hands

Animal rights activists are now being labeled 'terrorists' by the FBI.
Environmental extremists and animal rights activists, including the British-based Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty, pose one of the most serious terrorism threats to the US, according to the FBI.

John Lewis, the FBI's deputy assistant director for counter terrorism, told a Senate committee that activists had claimed responsibility for more than 1,200 criminal incidents in the US since 1990, including arson and bombing attacks against animal research laboratories and the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

"There is nothing else going on in this country over the last several years that is racking up the high number of violent crimes and terrorist actions," Mr Lewis said.

He singled out the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (Shac) as being of particular concern.

Mr Lewis said the FBI drew its conclusions after looking at all types of cases and comparing the animal rights groups with "rightwing extremists, KKK, anti-abortion groups and the like".

He said most animal rights and eco-extremists had so far refrained from violence targeting human life, but added that this could change. "We have seen an escalation in violent rhetoric and tactics," he told the Senate environment and public works committee.

"Attacks are also growing in frequency and size," he said, adding that it was plainly a matter of luck that nobody had been killed. "Once you set one of these fires they can go way out of control."{more}

Daniel Andreas San Diego has been added to the FBI’s list of Most Wanted Terrorists.

According to the FBI, “Daniel Andreas San Diego is wanted for his alleged involvement in the bombing of two office buildings in the San Francisco, California, area. On August 28, 2003, two bombs exploded approximately one hour apart at the Chiron Corporation in Emeryville. Then, on September 26, 2003, one bomb strapped with nails exploded at the Shaklee Corporation in Pleasanton. San Diego was indicted in the United States District Court, Northern District of California, in July of 2004.”

The FBI announcement continues, “San Diego has ties to animal rights extremist groups. He is known to follow a vegan diet, eating no meat or food containing animal products. In the past, he has worked as a computer network specialist and with the operating system LINUX. San Diego wears eyeglasses, is skilled at sailing, and has traveled internationally. He is known to possess a handgun.”

I guess that makes the animal rights activists Number 1 in striking back at a violent system.

This is in fairly stark contrast to the anti-war, anti-criminal government, anti-one world government crowd who take to the street in peace and write millions of words about the plight of the people but pretty much stop there.

The FBI seems to have a harder time infiltrating these 'terrorist' groups or individuals. Let's hope that is the case.

Animal rights activists say they set Reno fire

Animal rights activists have claimed responsibility for a fire that gutted the Reno business office of a company that ships monkeys from China for scientific research in the United States and elsewhere.

Reno police and fire officials began investigating the arson claim by the Animal Liberation Front after The Associated Press sought comment about an e-mail the group circulated to media outlets and posted on a Web site.

“At this point we are looking at it as a lead,” Reno police spokesman Steve Frady said Wednesday. “There is evidence of arson. At this point there is no physical evidence to link this with the group claiming responsibility,” he said.

No one was injured in the fire that broke out about 4 a.m. on May 18 and caused an estimated $300,000 damage to offices of Scientific Resources International Inc. just southwest of downtown Reno, Frady said.

The North American Animal Liberation Front Press Office, which posts messages from groups taking credit for animal rights violence, said on its Web site Tuesday that it received an “anonymous communique” last week indicating ALF was claiming responsibility for the fire.

“In the early morning hours of May 18th, four incendiary devices were planted at Scientific Resources International, a supplier of non-humyn (sic) primates for use in vivisection labs all over northern Nevada,” the message read. “The concept of animals existing as `resources’ is utterly despicable, and we vow to do all in our power to run businesses like these into the ground.” {more}

So who are the terrorists here?

About the ALF:

The Animal Liberation Front is a grass-root, underground, militant direct action group that frees nonhuman animals from laboratories, fur farms, factory farms and other places in which they are imprisoned and tortured. Besides rescues, the ALF also engages in the destruction of equipment and property used in the oppression and exploitation of other animals.

Rooted in the UK’s hunt saboteur movement in the mid-1970s, the ALF is anarchist in structure, meaning there is no conventional leadership or central organization. Anyone who is a vegan and commits an act of sabotage against animal exploiters or frees other animals (while taking the necessary precautions to avoid taking a human life) can rightfully consider themselves a member of the ALF.

In the tradition of the Underground Railroad, John Brown, and the Jewish anti-Nazi resistance, the courageous members of the ALF are freedom fighters, fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves.

And they have been effective, as evidenced by the fact that they’ve cost the animal exploitation complex hundreds of millions of dollars since their inception and by our corporatist government’s foaming-at-the-mouth response to their actions. The FBI has labeled the freedom fighters of the ALF, who are engaged in extensional self-defense of nonhuman animals—sentient beings whom are being holocausted at the rate of billions per year— the “number one domestic terrorist threat.” So who are the terrorists here? Animal-defending members of the ALF or ruthless animal-slaughtering corporations and their government protectors? {more}

Who would have thought that the most symbolic but effective attacks of people against the system in the US would be dominated by animal activists? If these actions are not 'false flags' designed to create 'domestic terrorists', then I say hats off to those who have guts.
