Societal/Economic Crisis Creates Killers and Their Victims

The stories from my original hometown of Gallatin TN take another turn from the police taser death this week to the home invasion murder of a well known local figure.

My heart goes out to the family, especially Dickie Lassiter's siblings, Robert and Mary Lou.

10/30/09
The Sumner County Sheriff's Department arrested an 18-year-old man in a fatal home invasion shooting that occurred early Friday morning.Police said the home invasion occurred at a home in Castalian Springs along Hilton Lane at about 4:30 a.m.

Dickey Lassiter, 61, a resident of the home, was shot multiple times with a shotgun in the chest and died. Sheriff Bob Barker said officials arrested Tyler Reed, 18, of Gallatin, a student at Volunteer State Community College. The sheriff said both Lassiter and Reed exchanged several rounds of gunfire, but Reed was not hit. Barker said Lassiter's roommate was home at the time of the shooting and called 911.

A deputy happened to be in the area and quickly took Reed into custody.Lassiter was well known and generous in the community, said neighbors. It was unclear why the home invasion occurred or if the two men knew each other."If you didn't have a dime, he'd give you the last cent in his pocket. That's the way he was. He'd give you anything he had," said Janie Ensley, a friend of Lassiter who cleaned his house for about 10 years. {more}

 suspect killer...

Sumner County Sheriff Bob Barker said the suspect was armed with a shotgun and exchanged gunfire with Lassiter, who attempted to defend himself with a handgun.

The 61-year-old Lassiter suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

The suspect, Tyler Reed, 18, was located on the property and taken into custody.  {more - WKRN}

Dickie is the latest victim of a societal/economic crisis that breeds children who don't know the value of life. A problem that is apparent, but not often acknowledged until it walks right up to our doorstep.

  1. I knew Dickie only slightly. I've hunted dove on his farm with a friend who was closer to Dickie. It's a terrible shock to learn of his murder. May he rest in peace.

  2. Tyler Reed knows the value of life just as much me or you. Don't point fingers unless you know the full story... Tyler's an excellent, loving, caring, big-hearted person.

    Thank you very much.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Tyler is NOT a murderer. YOU know nothing about him or his family that "bred" him.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Well, tell us the full story. We're open minded. The truth is all we want. Every story has more than one side.

    ReplyDelete
  5. He's not a murderer?

I do believe the last time I checked, he was caught w/ the "smoking gun," and confessed to the killing.

Those FACTS make him a murderer.

  6. This is from the Sumner County Sheriff's Office:

    10/30/2009
    Hilton Lane Homicide

At approximately 4:15am on Friday, October 30, 2009, 18 year old Tyler Reed of Gallatin entered the home of 61 year old Dickey Lassiter at Hilton Lane in Castilian Springs, Sumner County, Tennessee.

Tyler Reed was armed with a shotgun, wearing a ski mask and gloves and intended to burgalrize the Dickey Lassiter home.

Dickey Lassiter had been asleep, armed himself with a pistol and confronted Tyler Reed inside the home. Dickey Lassiter sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the neck and chest area.

Sergeant Aaron Pickard was the first to arrive on the scene and additional deputies responded from other areas of the county.

Tyler Reed was located within minutes and taken into custody without any further violence.

The criminal investigations division processed the crime scene and interviewed Tyler Reed.

Tyler Reed admitted to committing the burglary of the Lassiter home and the shooting of Dickey Lassiter.

Tyler Reed is being held without bond in the Sumner County Jail and has been charged with especially aggravated burglary and felony murder.

  7. you know the smart thing to do would've been to just call the police and let them take care of the burglary.. when you point a gun at a man and shoot at him your asking to be shot at. everyone says let the authority take care of crimes and not confront anyone. Supposedly an educated man no?? well he made the decision to take matters into his own hands. What would've happened if he would've shot tyler and killed him?? Think about that and as a friend of tylers i'd say myself i would've shot right back at anyone who shot at me also.

    ReplyDelete
  8. There's been a prelim hearing and rumor has it there isn't a whole lot of evidence to support the fact that Reed did anything other than go out to Lassiter's house; no fingerprints, no ballistics. The prosecution readily admitted the possibility of other suspect(s) involved as well, that theyre supposedly checkin out. you people need to remember this happened in sumner "good ol boy " county. theyre not educated enough to work a dog-nappin much less a homicide. i hear Reed has a heck of a defense team so we'll see...and always keep in mind this-innocent until proven guilty

  9. Anonymous Feb 9, I hope you're right. I hate that someone lost his life, but I hope that there is more than meets the eye. I've been praying for Tyler since I found out. I've also been searching for info. I am thinking innocent until proven guilty. I can't reconcile this with the Tyler I knew

  10. a kid named matt griffin was the catalyst behind this whole hi-jinks & should be behind bars...his cousin cody mckinight picked him up from lassiter's farm that morning after lassiter was shot & the matt kid got away, leaving reed with the so called "smoking gun". justice WILL prevail. sumner county detectives need to get off their a&*es & investigate this. everyone in town & beyond knows theres more to the story. lassiter was a homosexual, alcoholic, druggie perv & we all know those kids were out there that morning with lassiters knowledge & consent. his family needs to quit turning their cheeks & recognize this will all come out eventually. they need not be ashamed. we all have skeletons in the closet

    ReplyDelete
  11. I know that some of what you say was part of the speculation from the beginning but the bottom line is what has been presented to the grand jury and what the DA's case will be.

Even if what you say is true, without testimony in court to back it up, Reed is most likely going down.

Keep us informed on what happens. There's not much news coming out.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Everyone needs to remember that the evidence will speak for itself. And lying about the victim and assassinating his character is immoral and cowardly. The victim is not on trial on here and should not be.Falsehoods should not be said about the victim would was murdered and is not here to defend himself. Please have some respect for a upstanding citizen and a respectful and respectable man.
    Please and Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. To katie younger; what evidence are you referring to that will supposedly "speak for itself"...do you know more than most? Hmmmm, maybe you should be subpoened to court, to testify!?? There was nothing respectful nor upstanding about the "victim", mind you. Not unless you consider respectful to include illegal gambling/card games, alcoholism & firearm obsession

    ReplyDelete
  14. the da has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that tyler reed is guilty as charged. theres to many holes in this story. was there motive? did reed get caught with any of lassiters property on him? were there fingerprints-footprints in the house? a house dog & lassiters house mate were in the house for a good period of time before law arrived giving a good possiblity of crime scene compromise/tampering

Sumner County Jail Inmates Charged In Contraband Scheme
    2:26

    By Jeff Tang

GALLATIN, Tenn. - Inmates in one mid-state jail went to great lengths to sneak drugs and other illegal items behind bars.

"They have all the time in the world to think of ways to beat the system," said Sumner County Sheriff Bob Barker.

Earlier this year, a group of inmates tried to do so using an unlikely medium, legal mail. Each week, the jail's 550 inmates receive thousands of letters and packages.

"It's not unusual to get buckets of mail on a daily basis. The staff goes through each and every envelope to make sure there's no contraband," said Sheriff Barker.

Mail sent by attorneys gets special treatment. For legal reasons, it can only be searched in the recipient's presence, if at all.

"Some of the packages looked suspicious. They had a bulk to them other than normal," said Barker.

Investigators intercepted several envelopes that did not have legal documents as advertised, but instead contained cigarettes, marijuana and other contraband.

Sheriff Bob Barker said some of the items did make it into jail, but no longer thanks to the work of corrections officers and detectives. The four inmates, ☺Tyler Reed, Patrick Favreau, James Torrance and Elzie Winters, along with one civilian suspect, Maria Gregg, face felony identity theft and contraband charges.

"There are certain times when certain things are handled hastily. This has been a wake up to staff to be more diligent and observant," said Barker.

In addition to the suspicious bulk of the packages, a corrections officer noticed the attorney listed on the envelope was not actually the inmate's attorney. That red flag helped investigators cement their case.

Sheriff Barker said this is a big deal because contraband inside the jail can lead to violence. Stronger inmates often try to overpower others in order to get their hands on valued goods.

One of the men charged in the contraband scheme, ☻Tyler Reed, is currently behind bars on murder charges. Reed is accused of killing Dickie Lassiter♥ last year.

  21. Oh My - all this childish name calling, apparently you are a sad, bitter, angry person. May I suggest an anger management class for you? Matt isn't "nasty"..he showers every day. He may be "scrawny", gets that from his mothers side of the family. "Pale" well, he can't help that, what's that got to do with ANYTHING. "Rotten-tooth, I saw him just the other day, I thought his teeth looked very healthy, can't fault the guy if he MIGHT have a cavity or two..gees, so picky. "lying" - I need you to prove that - I've never known him to lie. "Good for nothing" - maybe he's good for nothing to YOU, but he is very loved by his family and would do ANYTHING for us. "Ghoul" - that's an description of him, I have not personally witnessed him floating or flying, but I'll pay closer attention from now on...another gee..thug & loser - neither, again just your opinion and doesn't mean anything to his family. You know, I have never tried herion, how is it? I did some some dope years ago. It did nothing but make me sleepy and hugry, I could tear up some tacos and sleep for about 12 hours...wow.
Anyway, until you reveal yourself, I am NOT even going to justify Matt's innocence or character to you anymore. Get a damn life or like my sister said crawl back in the dumpster you came out of. The ONLY FACTS we need to face is, he is a good man and did not kill anyone!

    Please keep us informed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Man, MOST of you are some really judgmental people!!! I knew Mr. Lassiter, personally, and I know what kind of person he was and wasn't. Homosexual? WOW! I think not! We all fall short of the glory of God, so judge not lest ye be judged.

#1 -- To whomever the "poster" is that thinks Dickey should have called the police when someone had broken into HIS home and was obviously armed has simply lost it. I'll remember to call the police if it ever happens to me instead of wielding/using the loaded shotgun I keep and have a RIGHT under TN's self-defense statute to do so. Get a grip! And, if Dickey had killed the perpetrator, under that statute, he would've had every right to, if the facts are as they appear.

#2 -- Anyone of you making your snap judgments can truck her on down to Sumner County's Clerk's Office and pull all the documents you want involving this case. Discovery is over.

#3 -- Heckuva defense team? Out-on-bond at the moment, if I'm not mistaken, Fletcher Long that was also reprimanded by TN's Bar Assoc. just last year??? Google him! I smell a dis-bar coming. I believe that Mr. Long left Hon. Gay's courtroom on 7/15 on a recess and never returned. Fine lawyering that is. As for his other atty, she fired Reed for cause -- that is, stealing her identity to get his contraband into the jail! So, what's taking so long is that it appears as if though Mr. Reed's getting a whole new team of attys.

#4 -- Insofar as evidence tampering is concerned... If I'm not mistaken the response time from the 911 call most likely placed by the roommate was approx. 10 minutes. When someone is lying on the floor bleeding out in the wee hours of the morning, covering anything up isn't much of an option/baser reaction.

#5 -- Matt Griffin. Does anyone realize that investigators/detectives pull phone records, etc? If he, or anyone else, had anything to do with it -- at least enough for culpability, then it'll all be there. I'd trust that if the D.A. had enough evidence to present to the Grand Jury, they'd send it on up. Probable cause is a low burden to prove. What's the old law saying??? I believe it's, "You can indict a ham sandwich." Also, there are only two/three ways out of the Hilton Ln area and if anyone was trying to pick-up anyone attempting to "get away," I believe the fine Deputies we have in Sumner County would have noticed. And, whoever pulled the "good ole boy" card -- someone's dead. Someone's son, someone's brother, someone's uncle, someone somebody loved, so have some respect. And, finally, yes, everyone accused of committing a crime is innocent until proven guilty, but unless there's a really good reason for an 18-year-old in the dawn of his life to confess to first-degree murder when he didn't commit the crime, then I'm getting the vibe that the beyond a reasonable doubt burden is not going to be that hard for the State to prove.

If you want to know the facts – head to the Clerk’s office or come to the trial, or any of the hearings involving this case, for that matter. We have an open court system in this county.

Do ya think the robbery paraphernalia (ski mask, etc.) Reed was recorded on camera at Wal-Mart purchasing a few hours before the murder was part of this so-called consentual visit Reed and Lassiter were having?

I'll remember to bring my break-in gear next time I'm invited to someone's home.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's impossible to RIP while living eternity in a fiery hell-as far as break-in gear goes the boys were fearful of Dickie knowing him thus not knowing what he may do at any given moment as he was known to have a temper & would shoot over anybody's head, isn't that right Guy Herndon? Mr lawren lassiter, thank you for such a lovely, factual, "opening argument" on your uncs behalf, so full of legal jargon & inuendo its completely evident an atty/loved one wrote it. Oh but wait, darn your not rly a loved one afterall I hear-got cut outta the will eh? Poor rufus & his pompas lil boys

  30. its a known fact Lassiter shot @ "his shooter" FIRST! kinda makes one wonder if maybe he had a guilty conscience? When you live immorally its bound to catch up with ya-hence the fact that the man was completely naked. most men, if indeed "sleeping" in bed, would grab a robe a blanket or put on his shorts before "allegedly confronting a burglar". someone who supposedly walked in an unlocked totally lit up home where 2 men were "allegedly" in bed, sleeping-HA

  49. I missed this one at the Tennessean until now.

    http://www.tennessean.com/article/20110303/GALLATIN01/110303046/Murder-suspect-Reed-s-interview-deemed-inadmissible

So some of statements Reed made the night of the murder are inadmissible because the cops didn't remind him over and over that he had the right to remain silent.

But some will be admissible and may be enough to convict unless Reed comes up with something convincing to a jury for why he was there with a shotgun.

"A statement by Reed witnessed by Deputy Chris Magee was deemed admissible in the hearing Monday. After being locked in the patrol car, Magee testified that Reed commented on the shooting.

“At some point, he looked up and said, ‘I didn’t want to shoot the man, but I didn’t want to be shot,’” Magee said."

    ReplyDelete
  50. Tyler Reed's 4th amendment rights were clearly violated by police and detectives. When read rights You have the right to remain silent, and you say NO it stops there, police training 101! The da will never be able to have the case he or the public thought would be possible, and as for death row as metioned above there's not enough evidence for that coviction. No gun shot residue, can't place the defendant in the home. No personal belonings in the defendants possesion. No finger prints, all the prosecution has is a scared kid in a car on the property with a shot gun that cannot be matched with ballistics. Very week case statement given under pressure and force. Toxicology was tainted. As for speedy justice this is 2011 not 1811 the wheels of justice spin slow for a reason, if not there would be many wrongful convictions. Even those who sponsor this very web blog have the old west mentality. What is absurd is a DA who believed he could argue a point that was pointless as if he never had a day of law school and be basicly told by a judge to take his seat. The man was almost childish in his actions as to try ans argue a moot point. A fair trial cannot be had by a defendant if the judge and soon to be jury is impartial. those statements above sound asif they were written by a backwoods redneck who was problably a (pot) customer of Mr. Lassiter a known drug dealin gambler with a habit of bedding down with young boys with the promise of drugs and money. And for this housekeeper who cleaned the house she was rumored to have seen the after party mess's involved with such happenings. This isn't about murder its about covicting someone who isn't even the right person. The roomate the griffin boy should be suspects too but shabby police work with a possee mentality abstructed that. So as for case closed not by a long shot.

Why would the police dept. Create a cover up with Tylers toxicology report and use the TBI to back it up. Tyler was on drugs our whole family knew it so did this community but yet his drug test came back neg? He never fired a gun! Yes he may have been there but he did not do it!!! And for Don linzy try'n to say Tyler. confessed to Kel and I BULLSHIT! Bob barker knows the truth rest his soul!!! Never happened!!!

  66. Trial has been push'd back Till July 25.Finally the keystone cops get it! I know the Lassiters are chomping at the bit to try to prosecute the wrong person for the sake of having someone to blame for there loss. Now they are going for the one who had motive and knew Mr. Lassiter. When all along Matt shoulda been sitting in jail right beside Tyler.Tyler has protected this kid fought his fights took up for him and now lie for him for who knows why. Tyler actually thought he would tell the truth and admit his guilt.Anyway the evidence points squarely at matt.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks for the update - just curious, what was this Matt kids motive? Stranges its taken over a year for this info to come up.

    ReplyDelete
  68. has this matt kidd been lock up

  70. So if it all points on rat what's the worse they can get Tyler for

    ReplyDelete
  71. if was at the scene with a shotgun
even if he didnt pull the trigger he can still be charge with the killing unless he work out a deal

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think your all pathetic little Jackass's who don't know nothing! You all think ya know the law what are all you guys like judges or what? I d be suprised if it even goes to trial.

    ReplyDelete
  73. he will go too trial unless plea

  74. The State of Tennessee is the prosecutor of Tyler Reed, NOT the Lassiter Family. It's terrible to blame them for anything that has happened, is happening, or will happen. Don't be bitter, people. You act like poor wittle Tyler Reed's hands are 100% clean when they just aren't. Truth hurts.

To answer a question posed above...

Tyler Reed, if it turns out that he did not actually kill Mr. Lassiter, could still face criminal responsibilty charges. The highest of the criminal responsibility crimes is criminal responsibility for the conduct of another. For instance, say you are driving the get away car when your buddy is robbing the gas station. Your buddy shoots and kills the clerk during the commission of the felony of aggravated robbery. This makes the murder of the clerk felony murder (aka 1st degree murder without the prosecution having to prove the element of premeditation). You, the driver of the get away car, are charged with criminal responsibilty for especially (because serious bodily injury and death occurred) aggravated robbery and felony murder. It's exactly as if you committed the crime with your own hands.

So... Doesn't look like Reed is off the hook at all, even if he didn't pull the trigger -- even if he never set foot in Mr. Lassiter's home.

  75. dear anonymous you are so right ,but some people are noy understanding ,they think if he point a finger at somebody fact is he was there its his word over someone else who may have been there or not so thank you

    ReplyDelete
  76. Wow your really into this huh! You talk like your a lawyer your self! I'm his father and myself and my family know the lassiters aren't the ones prosecuteing tyler so for you to talk that crap to these other no life ppl who follow our lifes problems is stupid! We our family know that our son is by no way an angel and feel that whatever his crime he should stand up like a man and take his medicine but.... For him to take full blame for things he didn't do alone because he don't wanna be a RAT is stupid he's my son I love him his family loves him and robert lassiter himself knows better he played ball for him and did whatever the jackass said however how wrong it was.So put your name up so I know who I'm talking to don't hide be a man better yet find me in this stupid town we all live in I'll talk to ya.

    ReplyDelete
  77. "I know the Lassiters are chomping at the bit to try to prosecute the wrong person for the sake of having someone to blame for there loss." -- Sounds like you think the Lassiters have control over the prosecution... Excuse me for misreading (although your comment seemed plain to me).

In addition, I don't have to put my name up simply because you want me to. Last time I checked all I have to do is be white and die. Or, maybe, be black and die -- you won't ever know because I don't want you to. Just because someone chooses to write anonymously doesn't mean they aren't a good man... or woman.

    ReplyDelete
  78. still no more arrests

  85. Well kenny if you were in my shoes things would be clear to ya but you like everyone else only know what a one sided media tells you and you swallow it hook line and sinker your all chicken littles who all think the sky is fall'n because someone told them it was! There is more too just getting a rope and hanging the so called guilty! I guess you like everyone else had there way he would be executed all ready, there is more to it than ya think or it would be over by now.I guess you all thought casey anthony was gonna get life according to nancy grace! Evidence not what the paper or tv tells you. What can be proved in court. Despite you all being judge and juror your views mean nothing.my family is behind my son we care nothing about what this town thinks of us we cared about this community not now, you all turned your back on us first baptist church where tyler was baptised passed judgement they didn't reach out like christians they're are sinners thinking they're right wrong. So everyone in this town including you kenny can take a jump off a short bridge!

    ReplyDelete
  86. A short bridge? Well, maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

I told everyone that CA would be found not guilty because of that little thing called reasonable doubt. If your son can get a fair jury and you've got a good lawyer then maybe he's got a chance.

Those of us who have been around know that prosecutors and their witnesses can and will lie. If that's what you're up against then it will be an uphill battle.

I really hope you and your family will eventually find peace and I hope the same for the Lassiters.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Can and will? That's all the police detectives and DA and judge have done So far! Gay said he didn't know anything about it yet he sees Lawren lassiter every week? Horse Shit he's a liar! DA said himself he knew Tyler didn't do it someone else did!! Detective don linzy lied and said tyler confessed to me and his mother in bob barkers office when he wasn't even there! (Linzy) no recording or otherwise. They said tylers drug test was neg when everyone in this town knew he was on drugs! The govt. Case is all based on lies and fabricated evidence. I'm sure they will taint the jury somehow (DA)! We'll see next monday more lies are to come I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete

Weak little followers who are so scared of what this town might think of them. I see them look at us and turn away. So don't worry babe.

    ReplyDelete
  93. No one ever said that you shouldn't love your son. It's just that no one ever expected that the parents of the accused would be so gauche. One might have thought that they would keep their mouths closed and their heads down with some class... The Lassiter Family deserves the same respect that you demand, but you have failed to show a modicum of reverence for them or what they may have been going through these months. They lost a dear loved one to murder. Whether your son did the murder, Mr. Lassiter was murdered. You son still sucks air.

    ReplyDelete
  94. So your a Lassiter is that what your saying because I see no name spineless! I'm not hanging my head for anyone them you or anyone we aren't guilty I'm taking up for my family I'm a reed not a Lassiter so whatever and besides they have nothing to do with what I said before unless your one of em! My son hasn't been tried so he's still inocent till proven guilty. You sound educated with your comments so which lassiter are you? I'm free to say anything I want just like you and tyler might still be sucking air but your sucking something else like ass the way I see it! All I care about is my son and my family no one else not lassiters not you or anyother jackass in this town.I'm not cowing down to anyone!

    ReplyDelete
  110. The fight goes on appeal! At least next time they'll be no sumner co judges or DA's or jury so just so your informed. Maybe this time it won't be crooked.the Lassiters may have lost a family member but for now I've lost my son,but I won't stop till his case is heard by an impartial judge and jury nobody won today Mr. Lassiter he's gone my sons gone so in the end there is no winner.

    ReplyDelete
  111. after watching this trial i think it was a open and closed case i know all inmate have right too appeals and thay why this state going broke. he killed that man for no reason.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Well that's your opinion! Anonymous!I never will stop loving my son or fighting for him and appeals.... They don't break the state mismanagement breaks the state even convicted Tyler has rights one of which is to an appeal which in time could overturn Gay's ruling and go to a lesser sentence.Gay the DA they did what they had to do as elected officials to Keep their jobs. Its out of their hands now. And this town so next time sumner co. They will have no say so in the matter. If I had a dollar for the years knocked of sentences from appeals I'd be a rich man. I didn't expect an backwards non intellectual low iq bunch of misfits such as that jury to do anything different this case was fought on the grounds that would set up an appeal so all in all today was a victory for Tyler!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. i wouldnt spend those dollars just yet ,i know i find a new lawyer not that bird turd long i know the appeal line is a long one it can take up too twenty years are more

    ReplyDelete
  114. One year to 18 months! my son is at peace with it he knows the lord he'll be ok.Not that you care about our family matters anyway thanks for caring about my finances and representation, but we got it we can wait he's alive and well so are we so get on with your life and we will too you seem like your bitter? We aren't we have nothing against you or your family you got your closure its gonna take us a little longer for ours but when it comes I bet it will be much sweeter than what your going thru! God bless your heavy heart!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Dave, I worked with Kellee at SPC and heard the verdict today. My heart goes out to your family. I know Tyler is a good kid. He just got mixed up with the wrong crowd and did not plan to kill anyone. The guilty verdict is BS, and I hope Tyler's appeal is swift and successful. Please let Kellee know her SPC family still loves her, and if there's anything I can do for y'all, please let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Thank you very much Stephanie for your prayers and thoughts. God has a plan for Tyler he's well so are we!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Some of the post on here are really bad and I've been guilty of it myself. I'm sorry for anything offensive I've said my emotions got the best of me.I hope now the Lassiter family find peace in the courts decision and can go on with everyday life. We too hope we can too one day. May god take the burden of hate you have for our family god bless you all. Kel and I have done nothing to anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Thank you for that David.

Healing is not an easy process but hopefully peace will be with all involved.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I would just like to say that if tyler could have all the people from school and around town to come to his future court date and show them that tyler was just wrong place wrong and show the judge/jury that he is a good kid with a good future if he can get out of all of this. semtence to life in prison for that is ridiculous when they only found evidence of gun powder on his mask not his hands just his mask that should say enough that he didnt pull the trigger

    ReplyDelete
  120. Brian I agree it didn't matter in the court yesterday the lassiters wanted blood DA judge all of em! The only thing that woulda made em more happy woulda been if he got a death sentence.they think tyler and our family are monsters.Robert done Tyler bad when he played for him and I held back from get'n in his face because the harm it coulda done but if I knew then what I know now I woulda put my foot in his ass! poor old Dickey was dead already from drinking so much he just hadn't fell over yet!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Wonder how much money it cost the lassiters to buy that jury? Out of the dead ones estate of course.just say'n!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Wonder how many card games fat blanton and bumbleing whitley sat in on at (elephant walk) farm? Or gay? Well not gay he's a man of god so he says like when he gave Lawren his bible. Guess he can go back to his flock at church with a sence of accomplishment job well done.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Some of you people should really be ASHAMED of yourselves. especially you Mr. Reed, right after your "apology". Once again your tear into the Lassiter family. Why can't this just be left alone. It's over! The defense had every opportunity to state their case, they did in about 35 minutes time. From what I've read and know, the evidence was overwhelming, statements, confession, video evidence, defendant caught on the property WITH a gun. I am not going to reveal who I am but I do know more about this case and the people involved. I am not going to subject myself to the vicious name calling and threats, but I have read this blog for a very long time and bit my lip over some of the comments. It happened, it's done, it's over...there is NO ONE to blame for all this hurt and misery other than Tyler Reed. If he had only went on home that night....

    ReplyDelete
  124. The defense team purposefully made sure that anyone and everyone who supported Tyler Reed was considered a witness. They did that so none of them would be allowed to be present in the court room to hear the facts, hear Tyler's multiple confessions, and prove that the defense team totally b.s.'ed that family. They never planned on calling any of them to the stand. The defense team milked that family for $50,000+ and filled them with false hope. It's sad. This entire case is sad. Both families have lost a loved one in some form or fashion. It's brought the absolute worst out in people. So many people are hurting, grieving, filled with anger & regret and it breaks my heart to see people that I know have good hearts stoop to such levels of bashing others. The individuals that are on this blog calling the prosecutors and victim's family horrible names are the same individuals that got Tyler into this mess. That "wrong group of people" owe Tyler an apology. Some of his "friends" that were in the court room for the verdict had the opportunity to stop him from going to that farm the night this all started. Some friends they are.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Tyler solved this case himself no police officer no detective Da or judge. His statement under the influence of drugs his truthful heart police don't solve crimes they should thank tyler for doing their job for em. That was fought exactly the way it was to go we knew we would lose with what we had but the govt played right into our hand for an appeal. Do you actually think we thought we would win with a judge who was impartial the evidence the govt had no but they set the appeal in motion. This way lassiters have closure the judge and da come out winners for the community and voters. Tyler barely was 18 when this happened an appeal will cut his sentence granted it will be a long time but it will happen and we his family will get our closure he's just a kid not an old man so enjoy your justice ours will come.

    ReplyDelete
  126. the appeal everone talks about will be handle in a room a lawyer and some judges with about fithy other cases they will all the fact use at a the trial and make a ruling on that

    ReplyDelete
  127. With no judges wives family or lassiters present no sumner co. Ppl at all. So now that they are all out of the process fairness will prevail I'm sure. No way could the child get a fair trial here. Ppl have done far worse crimes and got lesser sentences. For a jury to give a kid such a sentece being so young and only having minor troubles with the law is crazy. He'll be alright I'm sure...in time. As for his family his parents its sad to see them go thru this. But they to will be fine I'm sure they are strong.I didn't put my name because I know how this town works and don't want to cause the Reeds anymore heartache and sorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I think at best it was 2nd degree! He is lucky to be alive him self.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Sentencing for 1st Degree Murder is statutorily fixed. Reed received the lightest sentence allowed for 1st Degree Murder -- Life with the possibility of parole. He will serve a minimum of 25 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. The Court of Criminal Appeals cannot legislate from the bench -- i.e. they cannot override the statute. Now, they may "play" with Reed's sentences for the other crimes -- Burglary, the weapon charge, and the contraband charge.

The murder was not 2nd Degree because murder that occurs during the commission of a felony is 1st Degree without the State being required to prove premeditation. Reed committed Burglary in that he breached the threshold of someone's home without owner's consent with the intent to steal. There is a list of crimes in the statute that if murder occurs during their commission, that murder is auto considered 1st Degree (ex. rape, arson, bombs, burglary, robbery, carjacking...)

Also, the appellate court does not have to grant Reed's request for appeal. The only time, in Tennessee, that a defendant has the right to auto appeal is when they are sentenced to death.

Reed made a blatant decision that October morning. PLEASE people realize that. It's not his parents' fault, it's not the Lassiters' fault, it's not Reed's friends' fault. HE made the decision to do what he did. Also, voluntary intoxication is NEVER a defense. Reed is the perfect example of why drugs have the potentional to be dangerous. He got out of his gourd and made a HUGE mistake.

Everyone needs to back off of everyone else -- especially the innocent and let this DIE!!! The dead horse has been pulverized.
