Oh No, Joe Bageant is gone ... 1946-2011

After a vibrant life, Joe Bageant died yesterday {March 26} following a four-month struggle with cancer. He was 64. Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara, his three children, Timothy, Patrick and Elizabeth, and thousands of friends and admirers. He is also survived by his work and ideas.

Another “American” Hero gone …

Bageant Moves On

I considered Joe to be the best 'southern' writer of his generation. Even if you didn't agree with all of his viewpoints, he always put a smile on your face.  He was one of those guys who in his healthy times would answer his emails and was as down to earth in his communications as he was in his writings.

His essays and books remain required reading. Maybe one day we'll see some of his work on the silver screen.

Joe, you will be missed .....

  1. That is too bad but the way things are going Joe may be one of the lucky ones getting out early. When I read he was undergoing chemotherapy I knew it wouldn't be long. If cancer doesn't get you, chemo certainly will.

This is one of my favorites from Joe.

  2. When I watched my girl walk away for her first radiation session I bawled loke a baby. 2 decades on I went from crying from one eye to being totally dry. Joe was great reading.
We were warned in the 60's to be vigilant vs tyranny. Massive societal FAIL
    How sad.

  3. We chatted via email long ago. I had a great deal of respect for the man. He didn't pull punches when it came to the betrayal of the liberal class nor the gullibility of all of us. His insight and honesty will be missed.

  4. That sucks, his writings made me laugh, cry and get mad and what more could you ask for. R.I.P. Joe you will be missed.
