It's not even possible to wallow in a little diversion like Sunday Night Football without it being politicized.
It's bad enough that the NFL has basically partnered with the military to promote war and now it's time for them and NBC, using their front man Bob Costas, to do their best Mike Bloomberg imitation and use a tragedy to promote gun control.
Costas is of course no stranger to sucking up to his masters. He pulled the Olympics stunt earlier this year of taking the Olympic Committee to task for their rejecting Israel's request for an official moment of silence for the Israeli athletes killed in the '72 games.
Now tonight at halftime Costas refuses a moment of silence for the Kansas City linebacker who killed his baby's mother and then himself in front of his coaches but instead goes on a gun control rant.
Some of his 'essay' came from sports writer Jason Whitlock who says;
"How many young people have to die senselessly? How many lives have to be ruined before we realize the right to bear arms doesn’t protect us from a government equipped with stealth bombers, predator drones, tanks and nuclear weapons?
What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.
That is the message I wish Chiefs players, professional athletes and all of us would focus on Sunday and moving forward. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it."
This is not surprising. Who owns many NFL franchises? Who runs NBC? Who wants gun control? Who wants control over all aspects of our lives?
You probably know the answers.
